National Women's
Cyprus Tournament: Italy loses. Ghedin: “Our best match”
“It was the best match I have seen since I have been training these women. Good for the plays, for the intensity, for the character. Everything was perfect except for the result”. This is what the head coach of the National women’s team, Pietro Ghedin had to say after the 1-0 loss against New Zealand in the debut match of the Cyprus Tournament. “I am pleased – continued the coach – even if I feel bad for the team that gave so much and played better than they have ever played. Unfortunately, we failed three scoring occasions and we took in the oal by New Zealand for our mistake: we let ourselves be surprised by a header on a corner kick, it was a gift to them from us”. The Women’s team played at the Nicosia stadium, the same stadium where the National team coached by Lippi had played: “A fantastic stadium – underlined Ghedin – like the rest of the stadiums where we have been training daily and the organization of the tournament, that is perfect”. The Italians took in the inning goal by New Zealand on 30’ of the first half and, in spite of the determination and plays created, they were not able to turn the result around. The next match is scheduled on Friday: Italy plays against Scotland and next Sunday against The Netherlands. The other group includes England, South Africa, Canada and Switzerland.
