Football Museum, a project for the growth of sports culture

An innovative project, a mix of passion and fans to help the sports culture grow: this is the starting point for the initiatives promoted by the Football Museum in Coverciano presented today at Palazzo Vecchio, during a meeting with the Vice-Mayor and Head of Sports for the City of Florence, Dario Nardella, the FIGC president Giancarlo Abete, the president of the Football Museum Foundation, Mario Valitutti, the director of the Football Museum Foundation, Fino Fini.
On behalf of the entire City Hall, the vice-mayor of Flroence Nardella presented the initiative: “This is the start of a great and ambitious process – he said – in which the rots, the work and passion are the three guiding lights of the Football Museum activities, whose goal is to become a modern system of putting our sports culture to good use”.
The cornerstone of the ambitious architecture is an ethical, formative, but above all, innovative and modern, project focused entirely on the history of football and its protagonists, living particular importance to the National Italian team that celebrates its first 100 years of life on May 15, 2010. Starting from this date that has a special meaning for the federation, President Abete underlined: “The Museum renews its commitment bringing out the best of the historical memory of football. These initiatives are especially important because they are taking place in the year that the National Italian team celebrates its one-hundred year anniversary. The objective of the activity of the Football Museum is to allow people to keep in mind what we were and what we did, because without the past there is no future”.
The initiatives begin on Wednesday, March 24th, with the “Symposium with the Directors of European Football and Sports Museums”, a meeting divided up into three moments during which the Directors of the most important Football and Sports Museums in Europe, museum experts and consultant, sports historians and some of the most famous Italian sports journalists will meet and discuss.
“Mobile Museum” will then be activate to spread through the Italian territory the cultural and sports patrimony, gathered by the Football Museum Foundation and tied to the most important moments of the history of the National Italian team, which will have a high visual impact thanks to the particular architectural expositions that will be used.
The launch of the “Hall of Fame” is also foreseen, something totally new that will be seen in Italy for the first time, to celebrate the stars that have made history; the 1st Literary Award “Football Museum”, realized for the first time in Italy; the expected and revolutionary initiative “Coverciano open doors”, to allow everyone to experience the special atmosphere of the Technical Center in Coverciano.
The new Football Museum website will also be launched and will be characterized by an interactivity that will be able to respond to all the needs of the site visitors; moreover, the new promotional campaign will also be presented and will be based on specific agreements being defined with the various associations.
