FIFA Bahamas 2017 draw: Azzurri placed in group with Nigeria and Mexico

Nigeria, Mexico and a team from the Asian Confederation (World Cup qualifiers will be held between 4th and 11th March there) will be the opponents for Italy’s National Beach Soccer Team in the World Cup finals in the Bahamas between 27th April and 7th May.

In Group B, Italy will make their debut on Thursday 27th April at 18:30 April against Nigeria. On Saturday 29th, they will face one of the three Asian qualifiers at 15:30 before playing Mexico on Monday 1st May at 15:30. The first two teams in each group will go through to the quarter-finals where Massimo Agostini’s Italy will meet the first or second team from Group A should they qualify.

The Azzurri finished fourth in the last World Cup held in 2015 at Espinho where the hosts Portugal triumphed and they have qualified for the finals seven out of nine times after finishing fourth in the qualifiers last September in Jesolo.
“We are preparing physically, technically and tactically,” said the coach Massimo Agostini. “We will look to finish top of the group and naturally our objective is to go as far as we can. We played and beat Mexico in October in Brazil but they have to be taken seriously while Nigeria are very physical. We’re still waiting to see who the Asian qualifier will be and we know that teams like Iran and Japan are to be feared.”
