Baronio names 18-man squad ahead of opening Elite Round fixture with Republic of Ireland

Last year, Paolo Vanoli’s Under-19 National Team reached the European Championship final against France but the immediate objective is to match what the Under-17 Team did yesterday evening as they made it to the finals with a match to spare. The Under-19 Team are competing for a place in the Final Round in Georgia which will be held between 2nd and 15th July. It will be anything but easy for Roberto Baronio’s side as they will have to top a group featuring the Republic of Ireland, home side Belgium and Sweden.

After yesterday’s friendly at Coverciano with Robur Siena’s Berretti side which ended in a 7-0 win (goals from Cutrone, Tumminello, Varnier, Pinamonti and Frattesi), Baronio announced the squad on Friday morning. The side will meet on Sunday evening in Pomezia. Italy’s debut will be on Thursday 23rd March at 19:00 CEST against Ireland, on Saturday 25th March the Azzurrini face Belgium at 15:00 CEST before the final match on Tuesday 28th March with Sweden at 19:00 CEST.
