From Spain to Spain. Following defeat at the Under-21 European Championship semi-finals, the Azzurrini will face the Rojita once more on Friday 1st September at 19:30 CEST in their first engagement of the season. The 22nd meeting between the two most successful sides in Europe at Under-21 level will be held at the Piercesare Tombolato stadium in Cittadella. The same venue will then hold a friendly between Italy and Slovenia on Tuesday 5th September at 18:30 CEST.

The Under-21 team will be back playing in the Veneto four-and-a-half years after their last friendly in Cittadella against Russia on 22nd March 2013 which ended as a 2-0 win thanks to Immobile and Insigne goals. The Azzurrini have faced Slovenia seven times previously with six wins and one draw. The most recent victories were a 1-0 result in Reggio Emilia and a 3-0 in Koper in qualification for the 2017 European Championship in Poland.
