Women’s National Team coaching staff attend AIAC course at Coverciano

"We’ve been drawn in a ‘hellish’ group together with the finalists from the Rio Olympics, Sweden and Germany, but this doesn’t mean that we should be afraid of anybody. What I want is to take to the pitch without worries and aware of our strong points."

That was what the Women’s National Team coach Antonio Cabrini had to say at Coverciano at the AIAIC course for coaches working in women’s football with his side set to compete at the European Championship in the Netherlands.

"The opening match against Russia will be key," added Cabrini. "We’re working to match the results of other Federations at the top level in Europe and it will take time to do this. Our objectives are for the medium and long term."

"With the girls and especially those in the youth system, it’s fundamental to work on mental side and they have to feel that they are sportspeople. This this is the main difference between us and other bodies on the continent but we’re reducing this gap."

"Women’s football has a different approach, there’s a different way of interpreting the sport and this changes a coach’s relationship with their players. The will to work with and train female players is greater than for their male counterpart."
