Three new faces called up for France friendly. Italy vs. Belgium to take place in Ferrara on April 10th

The National Women’s Team will soon fly to France for their first official match of the new year, where they will continue working towards qualifying for the 2019 World Cup. Currently first in Group 6 with a three-point advantage over Belgium, who do have a game in hand, Italy will be back in qualifying action on April 6th against Moldova. Their main aim is to retain top spot in the group, which would consequently lead to direct qualification for the World Cup.

Milena Bertolini will assess her squad during their friendly against France on Saturday 20th January (21:00 CET) at the Stadio Orange Vélodrome in Marseille, a match which will allow the coach to also ”analyse where we currently are in terms of growth”. Among the 23 players who’ve been selected, there are three new faces, including Benedetta Glionna, Martina Lenzini and Eleonora Goldoni. This trio all took part in the joint December training camp between the Azzurre and the Under-23 National Women’s Team.

The location has also been confirmed for the World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Tuesday 10th April (18:00 CET). The game will be played at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara, where the Azzurre beat Bosnia 4-0 during a European Championship qualifier six years ago.
