Italy against France in 2011 World Cup playoff
Italy face s France in the playoffs for the FIFA 2011 Women’s World Cup: this is the result of the draw held today in Nyon. The eight winners of the qualifying rounds will play two matches for the spots at stake with Germany, home team. Norway plays against Ukraine, Sweden against Denmark, and England against Switzerland. Italy plays the first match in France in a stadium yet to be decided while the return match will be played in the stadium in Gubbio.
The teams that lose these matches will not be eliminated. They will play against two matches in October – always after a draw to decide the matches – with the winner playing against a CONCACAF team for a spot among the 16 teams that will play for the World Cup title from June 26th to July 17, 2011.
In the meantime, the National Women’s team reached Castel di Sangro yesterday where they began to prepare for the two matches. As known, the team, which was in the same group as Armenia, Portugal, Finland and Slovenia, won seven matches and tied only on (in Ascoli against Finland) in the 8 scheduled matches, thrity-eight goals scored and only three taken in.
