#UNITIDAGLISTESSICOLORI: the FIGC’s anti-discrimination campaign is launched

On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the FIGC launched a new campaign, which will see the whole of Italian football unite in a common stance against discrimination, for the first time ever. The aim is to spread a powerful and unique message online and through the social mediums and the country’s main stakeholders involved in football: Leagues (Serie A, Serie B, Pro League and Lega Nazionale Dilettanti), Technical Components (Assocalciatori and Associazione Italian Football Coaches), Italian Referees Association, various sub-sectors (Youth and School Sector and Technical Sector) and further Divisions (Women's Football Division and Paralympic and Experimental Football Division) all uniting as one.

The project sees the National Office against Racial Discrimination (UNAR) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers become an institutional partner and was carried out with the assistance of UEFA Hat-Trick FSR (Football and Social Responsibility).

The campaign will be launched prior to the World Cup play-off match between Italy and North Macedonia scheduled for Thursday 24 March at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo. It will also be broadcast in conjunction with the games on Tuesday 29 March and Friday 8 April, in which the Under-21 National team and Italy Women host Bosnia and Herzegovina and Lithuania respectively. All the frontrunners of the campaign will spread the message on dedicated competition days and during the events that will be held throughout 2022.

"Italian football says no to discrimination, and does so as one, collective voice, which is using its communicative power and the impact of a very clear visual image: we are equal when it comes to diversity! The involvement of every group from our wider community, who I thank, demonstrates the great sensitivity of the footballing world, which promises a final victory in the pertinent battle against all forms of racism," declared FIGC president Gabriele Gravina.

Through the use of our four-colour identity (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), the #UnitiDagliStessiColori campaign, conceived by the Independent Ideas agency (Publicis Groupe), tells the story of the different ethnic groups from a new, original and unexpected point of view: against the irrational logic of discrimination, the campaign makes use of primary colours demonstrating how each type of skin has the same origin and, in fact, is the combination of the same colours.

The campaign will play an integral part in the FIGC’s Anti-Discrimination Plan, launched last January, which saw the establishment of the first Work Table against Discrimination with the participation of UNAR and all the main stakeholders of the Italian football system: Lega Serie A, Lega Serie B, Lega Pro, National Amateur League, Italian Footballers Association, Italian Football Coaches Association, Italian Referees Association, Youth and School Sector, Technical Sector, Women's Football Division and Paralympic and Experimental Football Division.

IThe project stems from the Federation's desire to give a strong, coherent and cohesive signal to combat discrimination and promote all inclusion by incorporating all the key contributors in Italian football. The plan consists of various initiatives that will come to fruition in the coming months thanks to the fundamental commitment of all involved parties.

The stages

La The match between the Azzurri and North Macedonia, on Thursday 24 March in Palermo, will mark the launch of the campaign, which will also be implicated in the broadcast of the National Under 21 and the National Women (March 29 and April 8). The matchdays comprising the 9 and 10 April will see Serie A, Serie B, Pro League and Lega Nazionale Dilettanti take to the field across the country. The teams will be accompanied by the match officials, who will spread the message at every venue. The Women's Football Division will support the campaign on March 26 and 27. AIC, AIAC, Technical Sector, Youth Sector and Paralympic and Experimental Football Division will carry out campaign dissemination activities starting from the launch.
