The Under-20 National Team competes in FIFA competitions, qualifying for World Cup finals by finishing in the top 5 places in at the UEFA EURO. In the 2017 edition which took place in South Korea, the Azzurrini achieved their greatest-ever result by finishing third. Prior, Italy made the quarter-finals in the 1987 (Chile) and 2009 (Egypt) editions. Since the 2017/18 season, the Under-20 National Team has taken part in the 8 Nations Tournament which replaced the 4 Nations Tournament to integrate sides moving up to Under-21 level.
