Elite round draws for U19 and U17 European Championships carried out

Today, in Nyon, the draw for the elite round for the U19 and U17 European Championships took place, as did the qualifying round draw for the 2022/23 edition of this tournament in both age groups.

Elite round, European Under-19 Championship, 2021/22 edition. The Under-19 National Team were placed in Group 5, alongside Belgium, Finland and Germany. The location of this mini qualifying tournament, which will take place in the spring of next year (to be completed by 29 March), will be decided in the next few days: “It’s a challenging group containing teams that, in terms of tradition and on-the-pitch values, are among the European elite in youth football. Here, I’m talking about Germany and in particular Belgium, who finished level on points but ahead of Spain in their qualifying round group. Given the large pool of players available, we must also consider the fact that there could be changes to the teams that played during the first qualifying phase.” The winners of the seven groups will join hosts Slovakia in the finals, which will take place from 18 June to 1 July next year.

Italy were placed in Group 5, alongside Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Estonia. The mini tournaments will take place from 30 May to 14 June or from 19 to 27 September 2022. The venues are still to be decided.

The matches will take place in March next year, with the eight elite round group winners and seven best runners-up joining hosts Israel in the final tournament. In the next few days, UEFA will receive proposals to host the respective mini tournaments, after which the venues will be determined.
