Italy are out of the European Championship. The 0-0 stalemate between France and Romania this evening in Cesena sealed the Azzurrini’s fate. Following the draw between Germany and Austria yesterday and Denmark’s 2-0 victory over Serbia, Italy’s Under-21s needed Romania to emerge victorious or France to win by at least a three-goal margin to remain in the competition.
Having failed to qualify for the semi-finals, Gigi Di Biagio’s side won’t take part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year.
