A great opening performance for Manuel Pasqual on the sidelines for the Under-16 national team as he led Italy to a 2-1 win over England at the Stadio delle Tre Fontane in Rome, in the first of two friendlies scheduled over three days. The Azzurrini took the lead in the second minute with a goal from Maximilian Donner, a forward for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and doubled their advantage in the fourth minute through Francesco Olivieri, a midfielder for Empoli. In the second half, England narrowed the gap in the 53rd minute thanks to Joshua Abe, a winger for Liverpool.
“My debut has definitely been positive,” admitted the Azzurri coach, “especially thanks to the boys, because they are the real stars, the ones who go out on the field. It was a victory of resilience because in the second half, we struggled a bit, and we regrouped well. But it’s in those difficult moments that you come together as a team.”
