Club Italia: the Women’s National Team Coaches for the 2022/23 season

After having officially announced the Men’s National Team Staff, Club Italia has published the names of the Coaches who will be in charge of the Women’s National Teams for the upcoming season. Milena Bertolini continues in her role as the First-Team Head Coach, with the aim being to secure a place at the next World Cup when the Azzurre take to the pitch in September. Nazzarena Grilli is advancing from the U17s to the U23s, and Selena Mazzantini and Jacopo Leandri are also changing dugouts, moving from U23s and U16s to the U19s and U17s, respectively. The Assistant Coach of the U19s last season, Viviana Schiavi, will have the task of leading the Under 16s.

2022/23. Fresh from the disappointment of early elimination from the European Championship, Milena Bertolini’s National Team will quickly have to turn over a new page in their quest for World Cup qualification. First in Group G with a two-point advantage over Switzerland, the Azzurre will be looking to defend their lead in the last two games of the group and thus secure a spot at the coveted tournament. They'll come up against Moldova and Romania on 2 and 6 September, respectively. While the U23s (who will be at Coverciano at the end of the month for their first training camp of the season) are only going to play friendlies like the Under 16s – in an attempt to encourage the transition of the girls from youth activities to senior football – European qualifying action awaits the U19s and U17s.

The U19s start the new season by taking on Switzerland (3 September) and the Netherlands (6 September) in friendlies. The first European qualifying phase will take place in Hungary, where they will face off against Serbia (5 October), Wales (8 October) and the Hungarians (11 October). The Under 17s, who will be involved in two friendlies against Germany on 6 and 9 September, will be on home turf for the first stage of qualification (the matches will be broadcast live on the FIGC website): the Azzurrine will kick off against Iceland on 4 October, before taking on France (7 October) and then Switzerland (10 October).
