Preparations for Euro 2023 start off with friendly against England on 22 September

The U21 team will open the new season with a friendly that is to be used as the first step towards preparations for the European Championships in Georgia and Romania in 2023. The game against England will be played on Thursday 22 September in Italy, with the venue to be decided at a later date.

The two nations have previously faced each other 21 times. The last meeting was back in November 2018 in Ferrara, again in a friendly, with the Young Lions coming out on top 2-1. Out of the 21 encounters, Italy have won 8, drawn 7 and lost 6.

Just as Italy did after beating the Republic of Ireland 4-1 last Tuesday in their final group game in Ascoli Piceno, also England qualified for Euro 2023 as winners of Group G.
