World Cup qualification, Ferrara’s Paolo Mazza will host Italy vs Romania, 6 September

The women’s squad - currently involved in the European Championships in England and who face France this evening at 21:00 (CEST) - will be back in action in September for their final two group games in the 2023 World Cup qualification round.

The first game will see the Azzurre face Moldava at home on 3 September, while the following game three days later, on 6 September, against Romania will be played at Ferrara’s Paolo Mazza; two crucial games that will decide if the squad goes to Australia and New Zealand or not.

Leading the group with 21 points, ahead of Switzerland on 19 and Romania on 16, they return to the Paolo Mazza stadium for the fifth time, with the last game being played there 15 months ago in a 1-0 friendly win against the Netherlands thanks to a Cristiana Girelli penalty.

There have been seven previous meetings with Romania, the last being a 5-0 win away on 30 November 2021 during this 2023 World Cup qualification campaign.
