Best wishes to Giampiero Boniperti on his 91st birthday!

Giampiero Boniperti was born in Barengo on 4 July 1928. A former captain of the National Team and a historic figure at Juventus, he has since become the honorary president of the Bianconeri.

Nicknamed ‘Marisa’ due to his blonde locks, his name has always been associated with Juventus, where he made his first steps as a professional footballer from 1946. Together with John Charles and Omar Sivori, he was part of the Trio Magico (Magical Trio) and made 469 appearances for the Old Lady, scoring 188 goals. He thus contributed hugely to the five Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles the Bianconeri won while he was a player.

On the international stage, he became part of the Italy set-up under the guidance of Vittorio Pozzo almost immediately. He was then one of the cornerstones in the side that had to rebuild following the tragedy that struck the Grande Torino side. He was named captain as early as 1952 and was involved in two World Cups with the Azzurri. In total, he earned 38 caps and scored eight goals, while he remains the only Italy player to have scored a goal in three different decades (from the 1940s to the 1960s).

After his career as a player came to an end, Boniperti occupied the position of Juventus president from 1971 to 1990. His presidency is considered as one of the most successful in the Bianconeri’s history, with the following titles having been won: Scudetto (x9), Coppa Italia (x2), Intercontinental Cup (x1), the Champions League (x1), European Cup Winners’ Cup (x1) and the UEFA Cup (x1).

After being named as one of the world’s top 125 greatest living footballers in 2004, he was then inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame del calcio italiano’ under the category of ‘Dirigente’ (Director) in 2012.
