The University National Team was founded thanks to collaboration between the FIGC and Serie B. In history, Italy have won two gold medals at the 1997 Universiade in Palermo and in 2015 in Gwangiu, South Korea. They have also won five silver medals in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
