The Under-20 National Team competes in FIFA competitions, qualifying for World Cup finals by finishing in the top five places in at the UEFA EURO. In the 2017 edition, which took place in South Korea, the Azzurrini achieved their greatest-ever result by finishing third. Previously, Italy made the quarter-finals in 1987 (Chile) and 2009 (Egypt). Since the 2017/18 season, the Under-20 National Team has taken part in the Elite League, which replaced the 4 Nations Tournament, as the players take on other European sides with a view to moving up to Under-21 level.
