Lorenzo Insigne has been voted as the best performing Italian on matchday 37 in Serie A according to votes from the three leading sports newspapers.
After his great performance in the Neapolitans’ victorious away game at Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, he picked up a unanimous average rating of 7.5, from each of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Tuttosport.
It was yet another game in which the former Pescara man was the driving force, bringing himself onto 19 goals in the league. The 29-year-old from Frattamaggiore managed to get a goal, hit the post twice, and provide plenty of quality plays throughout the match: After 33 minutes of play he hit the crossbar with a free-kick from 25 metres out; in the 56th minute he unlocked the match by scoring the rebound from a penalty that he himself had missed; on 63 minutes he smacked the woodwork for the second time, with a precise left-handed low shot after Politano's heel pass; finally, four minutes later, he laid the ball off for Zielinski, whose left-foot shot flew past Terracciano despite Venuti's deflection, sealing the final scoreline of 0-2.
It was a fundamental victory for Gennaro Gattuso’s Napoli in their search for European football next season.
