The President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Luciano Buonfiglio, today proposed to the CONI Executive Board that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) be placed under the administration of a commissioner, with Giovanni Malagò appointed to the role, in order to hold new elections no later than 31 January 2027. The Executive Board unanimously approved the proposal, after which the CONI National Council also unanimously voted in favour of placing the FIGC under administration, with Malagò taking on the role of commissioner.

“I would like to thank the CONI Executive Board and National Council for their trust and for the responsibility they have entrusted to me,” Malagò said. “I accept this role in the spirit of public service, fully aware of the delicate nature of the situation and the work that lies ahead. This decision brings to an end a long and complex dispute involving the FIGC. From today, I believe it is essential to look forward and focus all our energy and attention on the real priorities of Italian football. Long live Italy.”
