To mark International Women’s Day, the FIGC has chosen to celebrate 8 March through the strongest symbol of the Azzurri identity: the national team shirt. In the visual for the campaign created by the Federation – visible on the institutution’s website and across its social media channels – the word “AZZURRA” becomes both a message and a declaration of belonging.
Not a gender label, but a shared identity that unites rather than divides. The campaign expresses a clear principle: talent, commitment and the right to represent Italy know no gender, or any other distinction. There is only one shirt, one passion and one national team.
The claim follows last year’s message, “It’s not women’s football, it’s football,” inspired by a phrase from Andrea Soncin, head coach of the Italian women’s national team. The message is part of a broader path of cultural and linguistic change taking place within Italian society and the football world. Through this initiative, the FIGC renews its commitment to promoting respect, equal opportunities and rights for all women, both on and off the pitch.
“The Azzurri shirt is a shared heritage, without gender labels,” said FIGC president Gabriele Gravina. “The same must apply to women’s rights, every day, not only on 8 March. Football offers itself as a vehicle for a message that unites the entire country in a process of full responsibility and genuine inclusion. That is why the principles that guide us are embodied in a symbol that brings people together rather than dividing them.”
