"A victory for common sense and for Italian football in general." This is how FIGC President Gabriele Gravina responded to the Italian Footballers' Association's decision to call off the strike planned for matchday one of the Serie C season.
President Gravina continued: "Serie C fans deserve this restart, entire cities have been waiting for months for the league to restart. The solution that's been found stops us reaching an impasse that could have compromised their passion. Following prolonged and in-depth discussion about the sustainability of Serie C, the FIGC has taken on the burden of looking for a middle ground despite despite the range of views that have been expressed on the matter. I'd like to thank the Italian Footballers' Association and the Lega Pro for their flexibility and the responsibility they have demonstrated, and from now on, the talking will be done on the pitch."
