The FIGC web series on the social value of football has added a new installment focusing on the history of Italian football and the broader impact of sport on culture and national identity. Thanks to the involvement of Matteo Marani, President of the Fondazione Museo del Calcio Italiano, and Silvia Marrara, Head of the Sports Diplomacy Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the eighth episode of ‘Speak Out! Il calcio racconta’ explores the remarkable power of football to represent Italy around the world through a clear and effective language.
Marani describes the Museo di Coverciano not simply as a collection of trophies, but as a touchstone that reflects the country’s deeper history and identity. This idea intertwines with the work of Marrara, who is committed to promoting Italy’s image and values abroad through sport. A tangible example of this synergy is the stop at the Farnesina of ‘Sfumature d’Azzurro’, the FIGC’s travelling exhibition which has brought memorabilia from the Museum to various diplomatic venues, confirming how sporting tradition forms an integral part of Italian culture. The aim is to show how the history of the national team represents a living link between Italy and the rest of the world. Through the Museum and the sports diplomacy initiatives of the MAECI, sport becomes a tool to inspire pride in Italian roots and to present a united country rich in shared values on the global stage.
The FIGC’s new editorial project adopts the universal language of football in all its facets to connect different generations on themes of strong relevance and contemporary importance. The series includes ten episodes published on its sustainability platform sostenabilia.it (one per week starting from 14 January), where guests engage in dialogue and explore experiences and initiatives, touching on key themes of modern society: respect, inclusion, legality, health protection, education and social empowerment.
