Italy Women U16 kicked off the UEFA Development Tournament, hosted in Tirana at the headquarters of the Albanian Football Association, with a dramatic late win over Norway. Thanks to their 3-2 comeback win built on character and determination, the Azzurrine move top of the standings while waiting for the result of the other opening match between Albania and Wales.

The match was lively from the opening minutes and Italy took the lead in the 16th minute through Martina Battocchio, who first won and then converted a penalty to make it 1-0. Norway responded shortly before the break: in the 42nd minute Wilson Kumi equalised from the spot, before producing a brilliant individual run three minutes later and setting up Lea Roaas for the goal that turned the match around. Italy reacted strongly, and Priscilla del Prete’s side drew level in the 55th minute, with Jana Oberparleiter heading home from close range following a scramble in the box after Battocchio’s corner. The Italian number 10 continued to lead the charge during the final half-hour as the Azzurrine pushed hard for a winner, creating several chances, finally reaping their reward in the 90th minute when Battocchio threaded a delicate through ball to Fabiana De Clemente, who surged down the flank before beating the goalkeeper with a precise finish cross-goal.

“It’s a huge win and the girls deserve great credit,” said head coach Del Prete. “I saw a fantastic attitude. We started the game very well and reacted strongly after a brief dip. In the second half we increased the pressure even more — we wanted to win the ball high and created at least ten chances to seal the game. Those final celebrations reflect the work we’ve done over the past eight months. We’re a strong group where staff and players move forward together. I’m proud because this is a team that never gives up. Now we need to rest and recharge ahead of the next match against Wales.”
