Following a sensational 6–0 victory away to Serbia and a 0–0 draw in Copenhagen against Denmark in the two World Cup qualifiers played last week, the Women’s National Team moved down one spot to 14th in the FIFA Rankings.
Spain remain top of the standings despite their defeat to England last Tuesday, while England move to third place, taking over Germany. The United States are second behind La Roja, having recorded two wins and one loss in the three friendlies played over the past month. Japan are the team with the most significant rise in the top ten, with their climb of three places to fifth. On the other hand, Sweden, who will be Italy’s opponent under Soncin on 9 June, drop three spots to eighth. The Azzurre’s other two rivals in League A Group 1, Denmark and Serbia, are ranked 12th and 34th, respectively in the FIFA Rankings.
