Italy have fallen three places to 15th in the latest FIFA World Ranking after failing to qualify for the World Cup. Newly crowned world champions Spain now sit top of the rankings, overtaking Argentina after beating them in Sunday night's World Cup Final at the New York New Jersey Stadium thanks to Ferran Torres' goal in the second half of extra time.

The other two World Cup semi-finalists, France and England, sit in third and fourth place respectively. Brazil and Morocco each climb one spot to fifth and sixth, overtaking Portugal, who drop two places to seventh. Mexico rise four places to return to the top ten for the first time since March 2022, sitting behind Belgium, who move up one place to eighth, and the Netherlands, who drop one spot to ninth.

Following their runs to the World Cup quarter-finals, Norway and Switzerland have made significant gains, climbing 12 places to 19th and five places to 15th respectively. Positive World Cup performances have also seen Egypt (+5, 24th), Paraguay (+7, 34th), DR Congo (+5, 41st), South Africa (+6, 54th) and Ghana (+8, 65th) all move up the rankings. Meanwhile, Türkiye have dropped five places to 27th, South Korea have fallen seven spots to 32nd, Panama are down ten places to 44th, and Czechia have slipped eight places to 48th. The next FIFA World Ranking will be published on 7 October.
