On the 20th anniversary of Italy's fourth FIFA World Cup title, won on 9 July 2006, the FIGC is celebrating the triumph in Berlin with a special feature entitled Noi, i Campioni del 2006, available on the digital platform Vivo Azzurro TV and across the Federation's social media channels. It pays tribute to the Azzurri's historic achievement through the words of some of the tournament's leading protagonists, from former Head Coach Marcello Lippi to Gigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti. The special also features contributions from Marco Materazzi, Fabio Grosso, Filippo Inzaghi, Gianluca Zambrotta, Gennaro Gattuso and Angelo Peruzzi, as well as a moving tribute from Nicola Riva, son of the late Italy legend and former Azzurri team manager Gigi Riva.
“This celebration,” said FIGC President Giovanni Malagò, “is an inspiration for our future, because the National Team must find momentum again from the victories of the past in order to relive those extraordinary emotions as soon as possible. It is our duty to work every day to ensure that we are once again competing for these achievements. The Azzurri shirt represents pride and belonging; it is a symbol that must be honoured and the finest possible ambassador of the values of Italian sport around the world.”
