There’s a new leader in the FIFA rankings, with France climbing back to the top thanks to wins in their recent friendlies against Brazil and Colombia. Les Bleus overtake both Spain and Argentina to return to No.1, more than seven years after they last held the spot (September 2018).
In the top ten, Portugal move up one place to fifth, overtaking Brazil. Despite missing out on World Cup qualification, Italy also climb one position to 12th. There are also notable gains for Turkey (22nd, +3), Ivory Coast (34th, +3), Sweden (38th, +4), and Tunisia (44th, +3). Bosnia and Herzegovina, who secured World Cup qualification after beating Italy on penalties in the play-off final, jump six places to 65th. The next FIFA ranking will be published on 10 June, the day before the start of the World Cup finals.
