Spring is in the air at Coverciano. There was sunshine during today’s double training session, energising the squad both physically and mentally. “The training camp is going really well: there’s a wonderful atmosphere, and spring is on the way too; the weather is on our side. We have the perfect environment to prepare to the best of our ability for the two matches that lie ahead,” said Laura Giuliani with a smile. She is one of the most experienced players in the Azzurre squad, part of the team from last summer who were eliminated in the semi-finals, in the final minute of extra time at the Euros. Giuliani commented, “Our experience in 2025 will definitely motivate us on our new journey. We’re well aware of how tough this qualifying group is, and how difficult it is to continue performing at a high level.”

The road to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil will officially begin with the Azzurre’s first qualifying match on Tuesday in Reggio Calabria against Sweden. Giuliani continued, “Playing the first two matches of the qualifying round at home definitely gives us a boost and must be used to the fullest. Reggio Calabria? Every time we’ve played in the south, we’ve been met with such a warm welcome. I’m expecting that again, and above all, a packed stadium. It’s Sweden again for us…” she said with a smile that contained many emotions. “We know each other very well by now. And when you know each other so well, you always have to find ways to surprise them, or at least make the most of your qualities so you don’t make any mistakes.”

Giada Greggi also shared the same mindset. Greggi, who fuels the Azzurre midfield, commented on the squad’s past, aiming move forward with confidence: “We always have to remember the lessons from our past so we can get back to action playing at our best. We have two important matches coming up against Sweden and Denmark. As for Sweden, our opening match in the group, they’re a top-level national team. And it’s always great to play these kinds of games and test yourself against teams of this calibre, also to understand where we stand.”
She then added a final note about the coach’s requests during this training camp: “The coach always gives us motivational and truly inspiring speeches, and one in particular really struck me. He spoke about willingness. Every player needs to be ready, open, and committed. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the team’s strong desire to learn, improve, and grow.”
