Lorenzo Insigne’s solo effort to put Italy 2-0 up against Belgium in the Quarter Final of the Euros came second in UEFA's 2020/21 Goal of the Season competition. The winner, with 30% of the vote, was Porto’s Mehdi Taremi for his overhead kick in the Champions League quarters against Chelsea, whilst Rangers’ Kemar Roofe came third for his goal against Standard Liege in a Europa League group-stage game.
It fell to UEFA’s technical observers to pick the 10 top goals from last season, from all those scored in UEFA competitions (both continental and international) between October 2020 and July 2021. The uefa.com portal, the only place to participate in the vote, received over 600,000 hits.
