Italy remain in 8th place in the FIFA ranking with no changes in the top ten positions of the ranking. Reigning world champions, Argentina, remain at the top, with France in second and Brazil in third. A total of 62 games have been played since the last update to the rankings, 25 of which in the final stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup: Mexico, the winners of the continental tournament (North and Central America) for the ninth time, gained two positions, whilst the other finalists, Panama, climbed a remarkable twelve places, now sitting in 45th.
The other 37 matches took place in the SAFF Cup (Asia) and in the COSAFA Cup (Africa). FIFA considers these tournaments as friendlies, hence they had minimal impact on the Rankings. The two winners, India (99th, +1) and Zambia (84th), didn’t pick up enough points to make significant progress in the table. The next FIFA Ranking will be published on 21 September.
