Roberto Mancini will return as Head Coach of the Italy national team, while Claudio Ranieri has been appointed FIGC Technical Director and President of Club Italia. The announcement was made by Giovanni Malagò following the Federal Council meeting. FIGC President Malagò commented, "I believed it was right that the person to become Head Coach of the national team should be Roberto Mancini, for a variety of reasons."

Having led Italy to European Championship glory on 11 July 2021, Mancini's first spell in charge of the Azzurri (from May 2018 to August 2023) also saw the team reach the UEFA Nations League Finals twice, finishing third in both the 2020/21 and 2022/23 editions. During his time as Head Coach, he also oversaw Italy's record run of 37 consecutive matches unbeaten, a world record that was surpassed only a few days ago by Spain following their victory over Argentina in the World Cup Final.

 

Claudio Ranieri, 74, has been appointed FIGC Technical Director and President of Club Italia.

 

Malagò added, "To complete the jigsaw, I felt it was right to find someone with whom to share the choice of Head Coach. That person is Claudio Ranieri, who has assured me of his commitment." The FIGC President also revealed that a third figure will join Club Italia in the coming days. They will take on the role of national teams manager, a position previously held by Gigi Riva and Gigi Buffon. They will also oversee the youth national teams, currently coordinated by Maurizio Viscidi, who will remain with the Federation.

Mancini and Ranieri will be officially presented to the media tomorrow at 18:20 CEST in the press conference room at the FIGC headquarters on Via Po 36.
