FIFA have selected Gianluigi Donnarumma as the best goalkeeper of 2025. As part of ‘The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025’, the Italian national team and Manchester City number one was named ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper’, outperforming the other nominees: Alisson Becker (Brazil, Liverpool), Thibaut Courtois (Belgium, Real Madrid), Emiliano Martinez (Argentina, Aston Villa), Manuel Neuer (Germany, Bayern Munich), David Raya (Spain, Arsenal), Yann Sommer (Switzerland, Inter), and Wojciech Szczesny (Poland, Barcelona).
Donnarumma, who had already received the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, is the second Italian goalkeeper to win ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper’ after Gianluigi Buffon, Italy’s record appearance holder (176 caps) and current national team delegation head, who won the award in 2017. The winner was chosen by an international jury of national team coaches and captains, journalists, and fans voting on FIFA’s official website.
Last season with Paris Saint-Germain, Donnarumma won the Champions League, the domestic league, and the French Cup. “It’s a great honor to receive this prestigious award,” he said on Manchester City’s website. “I want to thank everyone who voted for me. I am extremely proud to be named the best in the world, ahead of such extraordinary goalkeepers for whom I have great respect and admiration. It has been an incredible year, one that will remain in my memory for a long time, and it is exciting to be recognized for my role in the successes achieved in 2025. I am happy for this recognition and will now work to achieve further success with my new club, Manchester City.”
