The U16s produced a fine performance to beat Portugal 2-0 at the Coverciano Federal Technical Centre in the second match of the friendly double-header between the sides, avenging the 3-0 defeat suffered two days earlier.

The Azzurrini took the lead in the 19th minute through Borussia Mönchengladbach centre-forward Maximilian Donner, before doubling their advantage in the 32nd minute thanks to Juventus striker Giuseppe Pipitò.

“It was a high-quality match physically, technically and tactically,” said head coach Manuel Pasqual. We were excellent and the boys showed great commitment, especially those who had to really dig in, given that we were missing a few players. We head into the Christmas break with a smile.

“Aside from the first half of the opening match, in the other three halves we played the kind of football this team has become known for. I’m very pleased, because, together with the staff, we’re doing an excellent job, particularly in how closely we monitor the players during their respective league campaigns. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all our scouts, who do invaluable work with their observations, allowing us to build a complete picture day after day.”
