
U20s lose 4-0 away to Germany

After friendlies against England in Chesterfield (2-1 win) and against Germany in Reutlingen (4-0 loss), the Under-20s are getting ready for the World Cup, scheduled for 27 September to 19 October in Chile. The Azzurrini were drawn into Group D with Argentina, Australia and Cuba.
Manager Carmine Nunziata has selected 21 players: five born in 2005 (Amey, Corradi, Okoro, Sardo and Seghetti), seven in 2006 (Berretta, Fellipe Jack, Konaté, Mannini, Riccio, Romanoand Siviero), eight in 2007 (Cama, Emanuel Benjamín, Idele, Iddrissou, Liberali, Mosconi, Nunziante and Sala) and one in 2008 (Natali). The squad will meet on Sunday 21 September in Rome and will head to Santiago on Tuesday 23 September.
Italy will play their three group games at the Elías Figueroa Brander stadium in Valparaíso, and will play their opener on Sunday 28 September (17:00 local time, 22:00 CEST, live on Rai Sport), before Cuba on Wednesday 1 October (17:00 local time/22:00 CEST, live on Rai Sport) and then Argentina on Saturday 4 October (20:00 local time/1:00 CEST the next day, live on Rai Sport). The two teams that top the group, and the best four of the third-placed teams, will qualify to the Round of 16, scheduled for 7 to 10 October, with the quarters set for 11 to 13 October. The semi-finals will be on 15 and 16 October, with the third-place play-off on Saturday 18 August and the final on Sunday 19 October (20:00 local time/1:00 CEST the next day, live on Rai Sport).
It is the Under-20s ninth participation in the tournament (1977, 1981, 1987, 2005, 2009, 2017, 2019, 2023 and 2025), and the fourth edition in a row (2017, 2019, 2023 and 2025). The Azzurrini’s best result in the competition was second place, two years ago, achieved by Carmine Nunziata’s team, who lost 1-0 to Uruguay in the final at the Ciudad de La Plata stadium on 11 June 2023.
