"After long and difficult discussions with my wonderful team of Oncologists, I have decided to step away, I hope temporarily, from my current and future professional commitments." Head of Delegation for the Azzurri, Gianluca Vialli, announced today to the FIGC his absence from the First Team's forthcoming games in 2023, with the scheduled start of Euro 2024 qualification.
"The aim is to put all my mental focus and physical energy into overcoming this phase of my illness, in order to be able to get back up and running as soon as possible to help and share with everyone the new challenges and adventures we face. Lots of love."
President Gabriele Gravina said "Gianluca is a key part of our team and will be in the future. Down to his extraordinary strength, we are certain he will be back with us soon. He can count on each and every one of us because we are a team, both on and off the pitch."
