The talented young defender Alessandro Bastoni gets his first goal for Inter

A bitter afternoon for Inter who were held to an away draw against Lecce. The Nerazzurri dropped two more points at the Via del Mare in their title race with Juventus and Lazio, but things could have been worse for Conte’s men after a superb performance from the hosts coached by Liverani. One positive to take from the day was Alessandro Bastoni’s first goal for the Club, the young defender coming off the bench to put his side ahead with a precise header into the bottom corner. The 20-year-old already has eleven league appearances this season and has certainly impressed so far, constantly competing with veteran Godín for a spot in the starting line-up. A certainty in Nicolato’s latest U21 side and one to watch for Mancini’s senior side, he was recently included in UEFA’s list of “Fifty for the Future” in Europe for the year 2020, a well-earned and deserved recognition by all accounts.

We spoke about his desire to get back on form just last week, and about his hunger for goals that he’s looking to satisfy after his return from England. Well, Patrick Cutrone is certainly a man of his word as he got on the scoresheet right away, scoring one of Fiorentina’s two goals to knock Atalanta out of the Coppa Italia in a shock 2-1 win. He then put in a great performance on Saturday at Napoli’s San Paolo, having his fine finish ruled out for offside in his side’s 2-0 away victory. His already apparent understanding with Chiesa is also worth noting, the winger another shining star for Italy with things looking bright for the Viola going into the second half of the season.
