October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and, as it does every year, the FIGC is joining forces with Komen Italia, the organisation that has been working throughout Italy for more than 25 years to promote women’s health.

Since yesterday evening, the auditorium at the Federal Technical Centre in Coverciano has once again been illuminated in pink. The Federation, which renewed its partnership agreement with Komen Italia last August, is supporting and contributing to the “Prevention Is Our Masterpiece” campaign. The initiative aims to raise awareness among the public and institutions of the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is organised by Komen in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Health.

Among its various initiatives, the campaign offers free breast cancer screening examinations and organises further awareness-raising activities throughout Italy. Numerous cultural venues have also been illuminated in pink to reinforce the message of the importance of protecting women’s health.

Six weeks of activities across six different cities, reaching both outlying neighbourhoods and central squares. The programme includes free early-detection screenings for women in more vulnerable circumstances, as well as sports and fitness classes, sessions on healthy eating and physical and mental wellbeing, conferences, educational seminars and fundraising initiatives.

The campaign officially began in Rome on 22 September and has already visited Milan, Parma and L’Aquila. This week, the Prevention Caravan will travel to Salerno, before continuing to Taranto and Reggio Calabria. It will conclude on Monday 9 November with a closing ceremony at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome.
